EV charger access control software
Control who charges, where, and when.
Flipturn’s EV charger access control software lets operators control who can charge, where they can charge, and under what rules. Create user groups, set site or charger-level permissions, and run public and private access side by side, all from one dashboard.

EV charger user management
Flipturn’s EV charger user management makes it easy to control access across sites and chargers. Create groups, assign permissions by site, zone, or charger, and update rules anytime from a single dashboard.
User groups and access rules
Create groups of users with shared permissions to access chargers like employees, tenants, or guests. Update access instantly as needs change.
Multiple plans per charger
Support different user types on the same hardware with separate rules and pricing per group. Keep access policies clean even when usage models overlap.
Charger-level access control
Apply access rules at the charger level. Ideal for reserved chargers, staged deployments, or sites with mixed parking.
Mixed public and private access
Run public charging and restricted charging on the same site without splitting hardware. Keep public access open while protecting priority chargers for approved users.

“Flipturn gives us the control and flexibility we need to keep our chargers running smoothly and available when we need them. It’s a night-and-day difference to our previous EV charger management setup.”

EV charging authentication methods
Flipturn supports multiple authentication methods, so each site can match how drivers actually access chargers. Set the method per charger and adjust over time as your program evolves.

Phone number and email authentication
Drivers scan a QR code and authenticate with a phone number or email to start charging. No app download or membership required.
PIN access
Issue simple PINs for controlled environments where shared or individual credentials are preferred over physical cards.
RFID access control
Enable RFID for drivers who need tap-to-charge. Assign cards to people or groups, and revoke access instantly from the dashboard.
Open access and free-vend mode
Allow open access where authentication is not required. Use free-vend for specific chargers while keeping authenticated access elsewhere on site.
EV charging access management tools
Flipturn's EV charging access management tools give operators session-level visibility, automated driver notifications, and charger availability controls to keep sites running without manual oversight.

Session-level access log
Every session is recorded with driver identifier, energy used, charger, plan, timestamp, and authentication method. Searchable and exportable from the dashboard.

Driver charging session notifications
Drivers are notified by SMS (and optional app notifications) about their session progress.. Timely notifications improve charger turnover at high-utilization sites without requiring a site attendant.

Idle detection
Flipturn identifies sessions that have completed but where the vehicle has not been moved. Works alongside idle fee configuration to protect charger availability at constrained sites.

"Our residents have responded positively to the new EV chargers and Flipturn app—it’s been a smooth upgrade and a great addition to the community."

Access management and payments work together
Flipturn's access and payment features are configured together, so the rules that control who can charge also set what they pay. One configuration, one dashboard.

Frequently asked questions
Do drivers need an app or account to access chargers?
No. Flipturn authenticates drivers via phone number or email, with no app download, no account registration, and no RFID card required. Drivers scan a QR code to start a session.
How easy is it for a non-technical site manager to add or remove driver access?
Access changes are made from the dashboard with no hardware interaction required. Adding a driver, revoking access, or reassigning a user group takes effect immediately and does not require anyone to visit the charger or recover a card.
Can I restrict chargers to specific users only?
Yes. Assign chargers to one or more user groups and only members of those groups can initiate sessions. Non-members cannot start a charge regardless of physical access to the site.
Can public and restricted chargers coexist on the same site?
Each charger can be configured independently. Open-access, group-restricted, and free-vend chargers can all operate simultaneously on the same site from a single dashboard.
Can different user groups have different rules on the same charger?
Yes. Multiple plans can be active on the same charger simultaneously, each with its own group, authentication method, and pricing. Each driver is subject only to the rules of their assigned plan.
Do you support RFID cards?
Yes. RFID cards are assigned and managed from the dashboard. Assignment and revocation do not require physical access to the charger or recovery of the card, so access can be managed remotely at any scale.
Is there an audit trail for who charged, when, and under what access rules?
Yes. Every session is logged with the driver identity, authentication method, charger, user group, and timestamp. Operators can export session records for cost allocation, compliance reporting, or internal audits.
