Features test

Fleet electrification is moving fast, and balancing costs, visibility, and scale is no small challenge as operators grow their charging infrastructure.

Over the past year, our team at Flipturn has launched countless new features to help operators cut through the noise and configure charging to fit their needs. For old and new partners, customers, and friends whom we met at ACT last year, here are 8 major fleet-focused features new to the platform:

1. AI charging operations agent

Our AI charging operations agent monitors charging 24/7, identifies / tracks issues through resolution, and compiles activity into a concise daily update that highlights what matters most. Flip keeps operators informed, equips them with actionable next steps, and helps them follow up with the right people, all without digging through any reports.

2. Onsite controller

Flipturn’s onsite controller enables real-time load balancing with non-EV hardware (such as a building load) and supports DER integration. The controller connects directly with chargers over a local network, without cloud dependency for core functions.

3. PG&E Flex Connect

Flipturn is now one of three approved solution providers for PG&E's Flex Connect program, which allows operators in PG&E's service area to unlock EV charging capacity faster. The platform enables sites to operate within the hourly capacity schedules that PG&E provides the day-ahead, all while maintaining reliable operations.

4. Depot view

Depot operators now have a customizable top-down view that maps chargers to their physical locations, with a real-time feed of occupancy status, state-of-charge, and power delivered.

5. Stop at state-of-charge (SOC) charging

Operators can set charging to end at a particular state of charge, site-by-site or vehicle-by-vehicle. When Flipturn detects that the charging session is above the designated % charge, it will end the session.

6. First-in, first-out (FIFO) charging prioritization

Operators can choose to toggle FIFO charging prioritization, which will prioritize charging sessions that began earlier over ones that began later. FIFO prioritization can be set at the site level and is especially useful for helping vehicles get in and out quickly - especially useful for transit depots.

7. Subsite limits

Subsite limits allow operators to easily set more granular constraints at the charger group level, based on how chargers are spread across multiple breakers, panels, or transformers. Available capacity is shared dynamically across all chargers under the same constraint, simplifying monitoring and management while staying safely under limits.

8. Payments improvements: time-of-use rates, Flipturn mobile app

We launched a ton of paid charging features in the past year, but we’ll dive into those in another post! Two highlights that are useful for mixed-use public & fleet deployments: time-of-use rate setting and Flipturn’s driver-facing mobile app.

Time-of-use rate setting

Operators of public chargers can configure time-of-use rates on a daily or weekday / weekend schedule. Drivers then see this pricing schedule on their end in-browser (or in-app), before they start charging.

Flipturn mobile app

Drivers who regularly use Flipturn-powered chargers have the option to download our mobile app for an even simpler experience: they can store payment methods, access their entire charging history, and get push notifications while charging. For infrequent / one-time use, drivers can still simply scan and pay at the charger without an app.

Summary

Our team shipped so many incredible features in the last year, along with countless visual & usage improvements to existing dashboards and processes. Each of these tools helps charging operations run more smoothly, whether it’s getting a comprehensive view of charging activity and action items each morning, customizing vehicle charging schedules to make operations more efficient, or configuring energy management rules to maximize the number of connected chargers.

Many of these features were born from conversations with customers and shipped within mere weeks — we listen, respond, and develop with unmatched speed!
